5 mistakes I see Class 4 students make in every mock test
Patterns that repeat across thousands of mock answers — and how to fix them in a single week.
After looking at a lot of Class 4 mock papers, the same mistakes keep coming back. Fixing even one of them lifts scores noticeably.
1. Skipping the unit
Question says "How many metres", answer is given in centimetres. This single mistake costs more marks than anything else.
2. Not reading the *whole* sentence
Most word problems hide the actual question in the last six words. Train your child to underline the final question before doing any maths.
3. Spending five minutes on question 2
The Achievers' section is worth more marks per question. Burning early time on a stubborn problem is exam suicide. Move on, return later.
4. Adding when they should multiply
Sounds silly. Happens constantly. Especially in problems with the words "each" or "every". Practise spotting those keywords.
5. Not double-checking subtraction by addition
Quick trick: if you got A − B = C, then C + B should equal A. Ten seconds, one extra mark.
