How it works
👀 What's going on?
Two columns sit side by side and every item on the left belongs with exactly one on the right. Guessing your way down the list is slower than it looks, and easy to get tangled.
💡 Here's the trick
Look at the columns above. Start with the pair you are surest about and join it, because that removes an item from each side and shrinks everything that is left. Work down from certain to unsure, and the last pair is usually settled without any thinking at all.
🪄 How to do it
- 1.Read the columns above in full before joining anything.
- 2.Join the pair you are most confident of and cross both items off.
- 3.Repeat with what remains, which gets easier every time.
✍️ Try it
Match kilogram, metre and litre to weight, length and liquid. Then: match cube, cone and cylinder to 6 faces, 2 faces and 3 faces.
Kilogram goes with weight, metre with length and litre with liquid. A cube has 6 faces, a cone has 2 and a cylinder has 3, counting the curved surface as a face.
⚠️ Watch out
You might be thinking you should work straight down the left column in order. That leaves the hardest pair for a moment when nothing is crossed off yet. Taking the certain ones first is what makes the hard one obvious.

Matching a name to a thing is how you learn any new set of words, from tools to countries to units. Doing the easy ones first is a habit that pays off well beyond this.
Exam tip: Cross items off as you use them, since a used item offered again is what causes a double answer.
