Figure Series: Two Things Change
Today's big idea
Read the shape AND the fill
Two things take turns — track both.
How it works
👀 What's going on?
A traffic light changes in an order you can trust: it never surprises you, because two things — the colour and which lamp glows — take turns in a set way. Some picture series work just like that, with two things changing together.
💡 Here's the trick
Look at the row above. Each figure has a shape and a fill (coloured-in or empty). Both take turns. To name the next figure you have to read both, not just one.
- 1.Read the shapes along the row: do they take turns?
- 2.Read the fills along the row: filled, empty, filled, empty?
- 3.Say the next shape and the next fill together as one figure.
✍️ Try it
Name the next figure in each row.
1. , , , , ?
2. , , , , , ?
Row 1 comes to , and Row 2 comes to . The shape takes turns and the fill takes turns, locked together.
⚠️ Watch out
You might read only the shape and forget the fill. If you pick ▲ but colour it wrong, the figure is still wrong. Both parts have to match.
