How it works
👀 What's going on?
Every letter has a house number. A lives in house 1, B in house 2, C in house 3, right along the street. Once you know that, a word can turn into a row of numbers and back again.
💡 Here's the trick
Look at the key above. Each letter sits over its number: A=1, B=2, C=3… To turn a letter into a code you read its number. To turn a number back into a letter you count along to it.
- 1.Find the letter on the key.
- 2.Read the number under it.
- 3.For a whole word, do this for each letter in order.
✍️ Try it
- 1.What number is the letter D?
- 2.What letter has the code 6? D is the 4th letter, so D = 4. Count to 6 — A,B,C,D,E,F — and you land on F.
⚠️ Watch out
Always start counting from A = 1, not A = 0. If you start at zero, every letter comes out one too small. Touch A and say one to start right.
