Equal Parts

1

Today's big idea

Equal parts are exactly the same size.

Split down the middle for 2 equal parts.

2

How it works

👀 What's going on?

Share a chocolate bar fairly. Every piece has to be the same size.

💡 Here's the trick

Are the parts the same size?equal ✓2 same-size partsnot equal ✗one part is bigger

Equal parts are parts that are exactly the same size. A whole can be split into equal parts or into unequal parts.

A square cut straight down the middle makes 2 equal parts. Cut off just a small corner and the parts are unequal.

✍️ Try it

A roti is cut into 4 pieces that are all the same size. Are the parts equal? → yes.

⚠️ Watch out

Equal parts must be the same size, even if one piece is turned a different way.
