Picture Pairs: Copy the Change
Today's big idea
Spot the change, copy it across
A is to B as C is to ?
How it works
👀 What's going on?
A small key opens into a big door, and a small button into a big coat — little to big is a change you already know by heart. An analogy just asks you to spot a change like that and use it again.
💡 Here's the trick
An analogy reads A : B :: C : ? and means 'A is to B as C is to what?'. Look at the first pair above. Something changed from the first shape to the second — it grew, or shrank, or got coloured in. Do the same change to the third shape to find the answer.
- 1.Look at the first pair and name the change (bigger, smaller, coloured in).
- 2.Look at the third shape.
- 3.Make the same change to it.
✍️ Try it
- 1. : :: : ?
- 2. : :: : ? In pair 1 the shape grew, so a becomes a . In pair 2 the shape got coloured in, so an becomes a .
⚠️ Watch out
Do not change the shape itself. A square stays a square — only the change (size or fill) copies across. If you turn the square into a circle, you changed the wrong thing.
See it in action
⚡ Time to play!
See how the first shape changes into the second. Drag the figure that does the same to the third.
Drag the figure that completes the pair
Quick check
✅ VERIFICATION
is to as is to ?
⚡ Finish the activity above first to answer.
