Turn this key in your head — does it match the others, or is it flipped the wrong way? Some odd-one-out puzzles are not about colour or size at all. They are about space: how a shape is turned and which way it faces.
💡 Here's the trick
Turning a shape never really changes it — the same key can point up, lie on its side or spin right around and still be the same key. But flipping a shape makes a mirror image, like your left and right hands. However far you spin a flipped key in your head, its teeth always point the wrong side, so it can never line up with the others. So when a set of shapes are just turned, the odd one out is the one that is secretly flipped.
- 1.Pick one shape and imagine slowly turning it around in your head.
- 2.Three of them will line up exactly on top of each other — the same shape, just turned.
- 3.The one that can never line up, because it is a mirror flip, is the odd one out.
✍️ Try it
Look at the three keys in Here's the trick above. One stands straight up and one is turned on its side, but they are the same key. The third key is flipped like a mirror — spin it any way you like and the teeth still point the wrong side. That flipped key is the odd one.
⚠️ Watch out
Do not rush. A flipped shape looks almost the same as a turned one until you try to spin it in your head — take a moment to picture each one moving before you choose.
