Line up a triangle with 3 dots, a square with 4 dots and a pentagon with 5 dots — something is quietly linking each shape to the dots inside it. Then one box shows a hexagon with only 4 dots, and it has broken the hidden pattern.
💡 Here's the trick
Sometimes the odd one out is not about how a shape looks on its own — it is about a secret rule that links two things. Here the rule is: the number of sides equals the number of dots. Once you have found the rule, the box that disobeys it is the odd one — even when the shape itself looks perfectly fine.
- 1.Look for something that ties two parts of each box together (like sides and dots).
- 2.Check that the same rule holds for most of the boxes.
- 3.The one box where the rule does NOT hold is the odd one out.
✍️ Try it
Look at the two shapes in Here's the trick above. The pentagon has 5 sides and 5 dots, so sides and dots match — it obeys the rule. The hexagon has 6 sides but only 4 dots, so they no longer match — it has broken the secret rule. That hexagon is the odd one.
⚠️ Watch out
Do not stop at the first thing you notice. A box can have a perfectly good shape and still break the hidden rule — always check both parts, the shape AND what is inside it.
