Concept 2 of 6

Before, After & Between

1

Today's big idea

Read the order, step one way

Before, after or between.

2

How it works

👀 What's going on?

Days of the week march in a fixed order, and so do numbers and letters. Once you know the order, you can point to what comes just before something, just after it, or right in the middle of two.

💡 Here's the trick

Before, after and between5just before?between7just after

Look at the ordered line above. After means the next one along. Before means the one just behind. Between means the one sitting in the middle of two named neighbours.

  1. 1.Find the item the question is about in the line.
  2. 2.Read the word: before, after or between.
  3. 3.Point to the item in that spot.

✍️ Try it

  1. 1.In Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, which day comes just after Tuesday?
  2. 2.In 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, which number is between 6 and 8? Just after Tuesday comes Wednesday. Between 6 and 8 sits 7.

⚠️ Watch out

Before and after point opposite ways. After moves forward along the line; before steps back. Read the word carefully before you point.

3

See it in action
