How it works
👀 What's going on?
Stand a tree by a still lake and a second tree hangs beneath it, upside down, in the water. That upside-down twin is a water image, and it follows the opposite rule to a mirror.
💡 Here's the trick
Look at the boat above and imagine calm water just below it. In the water image the top becomes the bottom and the bottom becomes the top, but left stays left and right stays right.
- 1.Find a part at the top of the picture (like a sail).
- 2.In a water image that part flips down to the bottom.
- 3.Check the left and right stay exactly where they were.
✍️ Try it
A boat has its sail at the top and its hull at the bottom. What does its water image look like? In the water the sail flips to the bottom and the hull rises to the top. Up and down swapped; left and right did not.
⚠️ Watch out
A water image is upside down, not side-swapped. If left and right flip instead, that is a mirror image. Water flips top and bottom.
